Being totally unskilled in anything artistic is a source of disappointment for me so taking a class of some sort would help begin to remedy this.
Having said that, I’m not totally uncreative as I enjoy making clothes that I do get a good few wears out of so anything to do with textiles was off the list. As painting a picture (that I’m proud of and will display at home) is on my list, it seemed obvious to find an art class.
How lovely it would be to sit with like minded folk, chat away and learn a skill all at the same time.
I found myself on classbento.co.uk and was pleased to find more than enough choice in my local area and booked a British Wildlife Watercolour class for £35 at my local HobbyCraft.
On the day, like minded people didn’t occur as I was the only one on the course but two out of three ain’t bad!
I chatted to the tutor Beth, an accomplished artist who designs fabric for HobbyCraft and works freelance too. She taught me to sketch the main parts first and always start with the lightest colours and for the large area of background, we wet the page a little first.
I came away with a painting that I’m proud of and a pack of equipment which, if bought separately, would cost around two thirds of the price of the course- what a bargain!
