Giving blood is not as easy as I thought. Leaving the country and certain cosmetic procedures rule you out for four months so when I was looking to book, I had a small window. I put my next round of procedures back and booked myself an appointment that fitted between trips abroad. It was to be a long four month wait but at least I’d secured a date.
Another obstacle was making weight. At five foot one, I don’t weigh a lot and fluctuate a pound or two either side of the seven stone eleven pounds minimum but thankfully no one I know has ever been weighed before they’ve given blood and my pound or two of clothes would cover any deficit.
Finally, the day arrived with the last stipulation; an iron test. I failed! I needed a reading of 125 (125 what, I didn’t know) but I only had 123. I left dejected but not done. Again, I’ve ordered my life around it and rebooked for early December. Let’s see what happens.

The same happened again only a tiny bit worse. 119 after a month’s course of iron tablets! What an embarrassment!
