Being the sister of a certified tomboy, I was able to fire an air rifle as a teenager as she got one for Christmas one year. Thankfully, in Britain, there is very little opportunity to fire anything larger than this unless you have the kind of license that many farmers hold. I support strict gun laws and am glad that our police officers are not, as a rule, armed so why shoot a big gun made the list is a bit of a mystery when I think about it.
Whilst on a trip Poland, Mark and I booked a trip to a country club to fire 75 bullets from seven guns including the infamous AK47, an uzi, a shotgun and a pistol. It was riotous fun and I was a pretty good shot!
Mark and I took turns with each gun, starting with a Glock pistol. I was careful to use the sights each time and was staggered by the kickback each shot sent into my hands. I remember aiming for the target’s hat and firing a few into his chest before putting a few around the target sheet.
The pump action shotgun was my favourite if only for the hilarity of only just having long enough arms to fully pump it!
If I never shoot a gun again, I won’t be sorry but I’m glad I’ve experienced it and I was left with a small bruise on my right shoulder from the uzi, shotgun, M16 and AK47!
